PUBLIC ADVISORY FROM DA-BAI:
FOR PIGEONS RAISERS & ENTHUSIASTS

10 February 2017, Quezon City - This week, an unusual number of pigeons getting sick and eventually dying was brought to the attention of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) through reports from pigeon raisers. The deaths of these birds are suspected to be from contact with other pigeons whenever they are allowed to fly in new or unfamiliar territory. Signs observed are depression, loss of appetite, watery diarrhea (whitish to greenish color) and twisting of the neck. Some pigeon owners are alarmed as they are following a regular vaccination program.

With this, the BAI advises all pigeon raisers to avoid the release of their pigeons for the next 30 days, especially in an unfamiliar locality. This safety measure can help reduce the risk of contact with sick pigeons, and materials that may possibly be contaminated with disease causing organisms.
